Recovery and days in Seoul
How should you plan facelift recovery in Seoul?
Build the stay around wound reviews and the surgeon’s departure assessment. NHS guidance advises avoiding flights for 7–10 days after facial cosmetic procedures; BAAPS expert guidance recommends a longer local stay for some operations and longer journeys. What needs to be ready before surgery?
Ask for discharge instructions in a language you understand, a list of medicines, the appointment schedule and a contact route that works outside clinic hours. Agree who will help with transport and daily tasks. Keep the clinic address and your accommodation details accessible to that person.
ASPS describes dressings and drains as possible parts of aftercare and recommends asking about washing, suture removal and resuming activity. Ask the team to turn those topics into instructions for your particular operation. ASPS facelift aftercare guide, checked 4 November 2026
When are drains, dressings and stitches removed?
MedlinePlus describes drain removal after 1–2 days and bandage removal after 1–5 days. It describes some stitches coming out after 5–7 days, while NHS guidance gives about 7–14 days for non-dissolving stitches. Across those sources, stitch removal spans roughly 5–14 days; the surgeon sets the schedule for each incision. What is the difference between feeling ready and being healed?
Recovery has several endpoints. Removing sutures means the incision has reached a particular stage; returning to desk work concerns stamina and activity; judging the contour requires swelling to settle. Ask which endpoint a quoted recovery time refers to.
NHS guidance suggests about 2–4 weeks away from work for facelift recovery and says the full effect may take 6–9 months to become apparent. Those are different milestones, and the surgeon may adjust them for the operation and your progress. NHS facelift guidance, checked 4 November 2026
Plan your first days back around tasks you can change. A private work call is different from a long commute or lifting equipment. If your job has physical demands, give the team those details before requesting a return date.
How long should you stay in Seoul before flying?
For journeys lasting around 4 hours or more, BAAPS expert-opinion guidance recommends staying 1–2 weeks after its group-2 operations, which include general anaesthesia up to 3 hours without walking restrictions. It recommends 2–4 weeks after group-3 operations, including longer general anaesthesia, multiple-site surgery or restricted mobility. The surgeon determines which category and schedule fit your case. BAAPS cosmetic tourism guidelines, checked 4 November 2026
The NHS general no-flight window of 7–10 days after facial cosmetic procedures is shorter than those BAAPS recommendations. Use the operating surgeon’s assessment to set the departure date and ask the airline about its requirements. NHS cosmetic surgery abroad guidance, checked 4 November 2026
Count recovery from the operation date rather than your arrival date. Add the preoperative appointment and any required assessment time separately. Keep accommodation and tickets flexible enough for another review, and avoid scheduling a major event immediately after returning.
When is an urgent call needed?
Contact the surgical team urgently for sudden increasing facial or neck swelling, marked tightness or severe worsening pain; breathing difficulty needs emergency care. [1]The Aesthetic Society aftercare guidance, checked 4 November 2026
How does follow-up continue at home?
Before departure, obtain an operation summary, the current medicine list and the remaining care instructions. Agree how routine questions will be handled, whether photographs are requested and who can examine you locally. Keep the scheduled follow-up dates even when the visible swelling has improved.
Confirm the local appointment plan with the surgical team in Sinsa before committing to a departure date.
Questions about recovery and travel
Can I stay in a hotel after discharge?
Ask what assistance your discharge plan requires and arrange it in advance. A hotel room provides accommodation; confirm separately who will help with transport and care.
Can I fly as soon as stitches are out?
Suture removal and departure clearance are separate decisions. The surgeon also considers the operation, your recovery and the journey.
Will everyone need a drain?
A drain may be used, but it is not part of every plan. Ask what is planned and where it would be removed. ASPS facelift aftercare guide, checked 4 November 2026
Can numbness last after bruising fades?
Yes. MedlinePlus describes altered sensation lasting weeks or months. MedlinePlus facelift guidance, checked 4 November 2026
